  • Master’s Thesis: Smart Production Planning using Machine Learning and Optimization Techniques

In the era of Industry 4.0, manufacturing companies are increasingly embracing AI technologies to streamline operations. Seal Engineering AS, recognizing this trend, sought to automate its production planning process, currently reliant on the expertise of a single production planner and scattered Excel spreadsheets. This thesis presents a comprehensive study aiming to explore efficiency of classification and optimization techniques in the development of an automated smart production planning system using real-world production data.

Integration of classification and optimization techniques into a unified solution led to the generation of a production schedule with reduced runtime compared to the current semi-automated process. Positive feedback from stakeholders at Seal Engineering AS underscored the solution’s promising capabilities. Proposed future works aim to modernize the solution within the context of Industry 4.0, enhancing its adaptability to dynamic production environments.
